The Kingdom Parallel: You are an Ambassador

Did you know you were an ambassador of God’s Kingdom?

The Bible defines ambassador as a messenger or a representative of the Kingdom.

That’s you! That’s me!

In days gone by, when a king or a sovereign of a country wanted to spread his authority and influence to a new territory, he appointed his son (or another citizen) as an ambassador to represent him as ruler in a foreign land and set up a foreign mission office or embassy. Which, of course, is still done today.

This ambassador was sent to establish a base of operation for transacting business for the home government. During his stay, he lived in the embassy, which was a gated community and the ambassador’s safe haven from any enemies or intruders.

Unless invited, a citizen of the foreign land (as an enemy) could not enter the sealed off district without the consent of its ambassador. As the representative of the kingdom, he held the keys of authority to lock and unlock the gate.

While on this foreign mission as the ruler’s spokesman, the ambassador carried the authority of the word of the ruler of his country, upholding the commands and laws of the homeland and represented the traits, customs, and so on, of his ruler and his country.

Where the embassy of the kingdom existed, the language of the kingdom was spoken, and the ambassador’s speech reflected on the king. His accent and language were recognized as soon as he spoke, for he declared the language, the homeland tongue, of his kingdom.

An ambassador was critical to the ruler’s efforts of establishing a forefront of the ruler’s presence in a foreign land.

Did you see our personal application in all that?

Now, read it again and put your name in place of ambassador or representative.

Our Sovereign Father, the King of heaven, sent His Son as His Ambassador to extend His Kingdom on earth.

We were all “aliens from the commonwealth” (Eph. 2:12 NKJV) until we became citizens of the Kingdom. Now, we’re appointed ambassadors as well of the Kingdom and represent our King to others, living as outposts in a foreign land, the land of the enemy.

As a citizen of God’s Kingdom, what we say reflects on our King.

The words we speak will identify which kingdom we represent, letting everyone know our native Homeland. We have the responsibility of exhibiting the character of the One who sent us and carrying on the mission of our Sovereign amidst diverse, and sometimes hostile, foreigners.

We are to make known the Homeland and dominion of our King, to give His perspectives on life, to show others what life is like in the Kingdom in which we live, and to recruit new citizens for the Kingdom.

As ambassadors, we carry the authority of the Word of our Sovereign while we’re on our mission for Him, and we play a critical role in His efforts to expand His Kingdom to others and to establish a forefront of His presence in a foreign land.

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ.”

(2 Cor. 5:20a NKJV)May you live as an appointed ambassador and exhibit the character of your Sovereign King to others...Lynn
